■Kyoto University of Education Art Forum Establishment
The "Kyoto University of Education Art Forum" is an active community (association) that systematically plans and disseminates exhibitions and other arts, culture, and education-related projects, serving as a platform for graduates, alumni, and current students of arts-related fields, including the former Kyoto University of Arts and Sciences.
Kyoto University of Education celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2016. After the war, in 1952, designated by a government ordinance of the Ministry of Education, the then-Fine Arts Department of Kyoto University of Arts and Sciences was established, and the first Special Subject Teacher Training Course and Special Art Department in Japan was founded, preceding the art courses of other education-related universities. At the time of its establishment, it was envisioned as the leading national art university in western Japan, and not only was the curriculum exceptional, but the faculty included leading Japanese artists such as Hideo Nishiyama (Japanese painting), Kenzo Itani (Western painting), Naoyuki Matsuda (sculpture), Motoi Shigenari (composition), and Matashiro Tezuka (crafts), making it a department with an unparalleled lineup of members unmatched by other art universities. Its graduates have played a part in the development of culture, education, and the economy during the rapidly growing society, and continue to contribute to these fields today.
