I, Toru Asakura, was in charge of designing your chair for 2023.
At my solo exhibition last June (at Nagoya Shomokukan)
We requested permission to exhibit the "Your Chair Project" so that the overall content could be conveyed, and we were able to exhibit for nine days. The pamphlets for the past three years of "Your Chair Newsletter," which we requested and received, were viewed with interest, and many people took them home, so almost all of them were gone.
I was surprised to receive your newsletter and find that you've included a report on what happened at that time!
On the day of my solo exhibition , Kenichi Isoda and Kaori Suzuki from the "Your Chair Project" traveled all the way from Hokkaido to Nagoya to come and see it, and I was deeply grateful and touched.
That day was Asakura's first workshop, and we had an accident where we couldn't get in touch with one of the people who had made a reservation 💦 Looking back, it was quite hectic.
So you were secretly taking pictures during that time, huh?
The designer for your chair in 2026 was Masaharu Izaki!
Mr. Izaki, who has always been a great help to us at Woodworker Week NAGOYA.
This happened last year when Ms. Izaki came to see my solo exhibition in Asakura.
"I teach my disciples to use their own things, such as chopsticks, plates and trays to serve guests when they come over,
I'm telling them to make those everyday items themselves.
If you want to make a homemade meal instead of buying a bento box,
How to choose ingredients, how to make them last longer, how to save money,
It's the same for all woodworking."
Mr. Izaki is also planning to exhibit his work at Maruzen during Nagoya Woodworking Week in June 2026.
