2024/12/10 (Wednesday) - 14 (Sunday)
12:30 - 17:30
62-23 Shimogamo Miyakawacho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Shimogamo
Organized by "Antiques & Gallery Kawaguchi Art"
Approximately 40 people, including Shinichi Moriguchi, will be exhibiting and selling their Wagaya trays.
Around 40 creators submit their works each year.
Everyone is creating new Wagatani trays using the ancient method of splitting chestnut logs and carving them with chisels.
This year too, when splitting green wood,
In the moisture seeping out around the wedge,
I create my work while feeling the life force of the trees.
Toru Asakura and Reina Asakura of Kyoto Sumiyama Asakura Woodworking also learned how to make Wagatani trays from Shinichi Moriguchi in 2017.
(↑The first tray I made at that time)
To reaffirm the life force residing in a single wooden board, and to return to the origins and fundamentals of woodworking,
2018-Present: "Wagaya Bonsai" Exhibition (organized by Kawaguchi Art)
We participate and exhibit every year.
The following are my previous works.

The name "Wagaya tray" comes from the process of splitting a raw chestnut tree and removing the planks along the grain. To put it more precisely,
Making the tray begins with deciding the length of the log sections to be cut.
