Delivered chestnut tables to the second floor of the main building of "Hiiragiya Ryokan" in Kyoto City

"Hiiragiya Ryokan" in Fuyacho, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City

January 2024: Two chestnut wood tables delivered to the second floor of the main building.

We delivered a chestnut table to the second floor of the main building of "Hiiragiya," a long-established inn in Kyoto. (The reason for the name "Hiiragiya" is that it is written "house" instead of "ya" (roof) because we hope that our guests will feel as comfortable as if they had come home.)

The request was for a multi-purpose table that could be used not only for accommodation and meals, but also for calligraphy experiences and corporate meetings and conferences.

"I made this table using a rare type of chestnut that has two opposing characteristics: fine grain but hard wood. This type of chestnut is less likely to warp, so it can be made thin even though it is wide, giving it a light impression. After delivery, I was shown around various rooms, which was a valuable experience. Toru Asakura"

The rooms have fine Yakusugi ceiling panels, tochigi shoin-style shelves, sliding door paintings, and rooms where Charlie Chaplin once stayed. Each room has a mini study-like space facing the garden, and it's an exciting corner! The stately tochigi wood paneling in the alcove is a feast for the eyes.

"Please use the facilities and elaborately designed spaces that change with the times according to your needs."
