Kyoto Sumiya Asakura Mokko will be holding an OPEN event on Saturday, March 16, 2024.


The "Open Site Tour" is aimed at elementary school students and above (elementary school and junior high school students must be accompanied by a guardian. Adults can also participate) to visit workshops and factories in Uji and experience the actual manufacturing process.

Tour of three buildings: workshop, furniture showroom, and NEW atelier.

We are also planning to experience the comfort of sitting on a chair, experience plane shaving, and a tree species quiz.


Reservations: You don't need a reservation on March 16th, but we are normally open from Monday to Friday, and reservations are required on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

We will be holding an "Open Site Tour" for elementary school students and older (elementary school and junior high school students must be accompanied by a guardian. Adults can also participate) to visit Uji's workshops and factories and experience the site where products are made. To do! Pre-application required (in case of large number of applications, a lottery will be held. Deadline is Sunday, March 10th). Please feel free to apply!

Ride a jumbo taxi and visit Uji's workshops and factories. You can experience the site where manufacturing is actually taking place.​

◎Target: Anyone over elementary school age can participate (Adults only can also participate) *Elementary school and junior high school students must be accompanied by a guardian.

◎Each course capacity: 8 people

◎Application method: Advance reservation required. Deadline: Sunday, March 10th.

ITAYA KOBO (a company that designs and constructs wooden houses)

We are particular about using natural materials, and we handle everything from design to construction of houses that carefully take into account the wishes and thoughts of each person.We take advantage of wood, earth, light, wind, etc. to create houses that are lean, compact, simple, yet elegant. We are creating living spaces. *Participating tour: B, C



Kusuoka Prosthetics Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (a company that makes parts that help the body)

This is a company that makes parts to help people who have lost limbs or have pain in their legs or hips. I do a variety of tasks such as taking the shape of a foot, sewing it with a sewing machine, processing it in an oven, and pounding and scraping metal.

Nisso Kogyo (a company that processes metals)

This is a company that cuts metals such as iron and aluminum into the desired shape using knives made from harder metals and special machines. Please come and see how we cut metal.

Kyoto Tanzan Asakura Mokkou (a studio and shop that makes solid wood furniture)

Wooden chairs, tables, and box furniture are made in a self-build workshop and sold at Sumiyama. We also provide custom-made furniture and architectural features such as kitchens. Open until 4pm on March 16th, except for tours. Visitors are welcome (no reservation required). Planner shaving experience available.

We work on creating handmade accessories made from art flowers and interior decorations made from upcycled memorable flowers used at weddings, etc.

I create a garden that is mainly made of miscellaneous trees that evoke a sense of nostalgia and the changing seasons. I am working hard to create a garden that will enrich and soothe the mind of those who never get tired of looking at it in their daily lives. *Participating tours: E, F

We opened as a furniture shop that produced furniture and fixtures using wood as the main material. Today, we not only produce furniture and fixtures, but also handle interior and exterior work in order to create the cohesive space that our customers desire. ​※Participating tour: E, F
