Toru Asakura and Rena Asakura of Kyoto Sumiyama Asakura Woodworks were also taught Gatanibon by Shinichi Moriguchi in 2017.

The Gatani tray is made by splitting a raw chestnut tree and taking out the planks in the direction of the grain.
The process of making a tray begins with deciding the length of the logs to be cut.
