Ochair Birth Episode

"...It is a story when the workshop was just established.

Mr. T was the first person to order OChair.
When Mr. T visited the showroom on the 2nd floor of the workshopOrchia had not yet been born.

He has lower back pain, so I presented another chair that I was most confident in my lower back.

A lightweight, minimalist design chair.

A light chair would be nice for the dining room.

Although he liked the comfort of sitting very much, it seems that something is unsatisfactory.

It looks too simple and uninteresting.

"You don't have to worry about the weight, so while keeping this comfort
I want you to design a chair that is more sculptural and has a presence.”

"Yes, about this chair."

Mr. T points to a sculptural chair that he designed and produced long ago when he was an amateur.

It was a shocking statement for me.

When I became a professional and started designing and producing chairs, I was naturally conscious of
Cost awareness such as production time and material costs. Productivity.

That's important, but if you're too tied up, you can't do anything interesting.
I forgot about woodworking play in a good way.

It made me realize how small and compact I was.

Now you can play with woodwork and create a comfortable, high-quality chair!

OChair has been redesigned.

Mr. T is also very interested in using it.

I am very grateful to Mr. T for reminding me of the important things that I had forgotten.

Manufacturing is not established by the creator alone.
It can only be established if there is a requester and user.
be noticed by the client,

There are many things that can be brought up with difficult requests.

The maker responds to it with the best of his polished sense and acquired skills.

Building good human relationships with synergistic effects through manufacturing,

I feel very happy when I am satisfied with what I have made. Toru Asakura

“Ochair, for example, joints.

・The arms and back are made up of three parts, which are assembled in a five-piece set.

I named it Ochair because the central part looks like the Chinese character for "king". The "King" firmly supports your lower back and you won't get tired even if you sit for a long time.

・The seat plate is composed of a frame assembly.

It is rare to find a framed seat board that is carved so that the buttocks are wrapped around it, and it is very comfortable to sit on. Other parts are also assembled with traditional Japanese tenon joints,

Compared to Western chairs with dowel structures, it is very durable.

Furthermore, the joint itself has an interesting and beautiful design.

Finishing for example.

・It is finished with Japanese knives such as warped planes and small swords. sharp knife

The wood surface finished with is glossy and transparent, and it feels comfortable to the touch. It is said that this is because the coefficient of friction is close to that of human skin.

Its goodness becomes even more pronounced after a few years of aging.

Traditional Japanese woodworking techniques are world-class techniques.

The technology is by no means antiquated.

It is the most suitable technology for objects such as chairs where people sit, touch, and apply force repeatedly every day.

Ochair is a chair that successfully fuses traditional woodworking techniques with modern design that matches the sensibilities of modern Japanese lifestyles.
